Students of Kwara State Polytechnic students took to the streets to protest fee increase on Wednesday November 8.
The
students who staged their protest at Muritala Muhammad way,
Ilorin held placards with different things written explaining reasons for
their protests.
The students' placards
suggest the tuition fee now ranges between N72,000 and N89,7000 as one
of the placards reads "say no to N89,700, N72,000, N85,200''
One of the protesting students, Damola Ahmed, who spoke with newsmen complained about exploitative increment of school fees.
"It
is pitiable that the management of the school has degenerated into
telling lies that there is no increment. They are claiming it is a
policy, an alien policy that says the same amount you paid in your first
year is what you will pay in the following year.
It
is not done anywhere because there are certain logistical payments that
you pay in your first year that must not return in your second year as
such that policy cannot stand."
However, the Polytechnic Registrar, Mr Moses Salami said the school has not increased the school fees.
"We
have not increased school fees and I brought out papers to show that
what ND 1 and HND 1 paid during their first year is the same amount they
are paying in the second year of ND 2 and HND 2. This is very clear.
Now if it is the same amount they are paying, where is the increment?"
