The University authorities of UNILAG withdrew the merit admission list because of alleged irregularities.
Confirming the development to New Telegraph, the University’s Deputy Registrar, Information, Mr. Oluwatoyin Adebule
disclosed that the University management has withdrawn the list to investigate the facts of the allegation of irregularities leveled against it.
He also disclosed that the withdrawal of the list is important to protect the integrity of the University among other Universities..
Pulse also went extra miles in speaking to a lecturer in the institution, Dr Taiwo Ojapinwa who said he heard about the withdrawal of the list but he could not confirm its truthfulness.
Ojapinwa said,
"I heard so but I can not confirm that. The only thing I am sure of is
that I was told that may be a lot of people were unable to submit their O
level and as a result, they wanted to shut those people out, maybe the
management now says they should give everybody fair hearing and allow
them to know.
"But
whether they have withdrawn the admission list, I can't really confirm,
because when I was driving to school, a prospective student whose name
is on the first list called me that she heard it has been cancelled, but
I told her I can't confirm the statement. So, that is the same thing I
will tell you now."
The
release of the merit admission list was greeted with resentment as some
parents are said to have gone to court to sue the University over
alleged irregularities in the merit admission list released in October.
Names of a number of prospective students who scored above their departmental cut-off points are allegedly missing in the list.
Although some of the students are expecting the release of the supplementary admission list.
But there are questions on why the names of students who scored above cutoff points are not on the list.
The tenure of the out-going Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Rahamon Bello
expires on Saturday, November 11. However, admission seekers hope the
irregularities in the admission list will be solved before the new Vice
Chancellor, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe assumes office
