SSANIP Accuses Federal Polytechnic, Zamfara Of Corruption And Issuing Fake Results To Students

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has accused the management of The Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda, Zamfara, of corruption and issuing fake certificates to the students upon graduation.
The chairman of the association, Comrade Hussaini Yusuf Gwandu, who made this known to newsmen shortly after a congress by the union, said that for the past three years students who were admitted to study Mathematics and Computer Science were being issued with statement of results reading that they had studied Mathematics and Statistics. The allegations came barely two weeks after the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) in the institution held a demonstration over what they described as pitiful infrastructural decay and overt corruption in the institution. Comrade Gwandu said the institution had problems with accreditation, as 17 of its courses were not fully accredited. “Moreover, the management of the institution has misappropriated N80 million for accreditation by diverting the funds for other purposes and we have evidence to that effect because a student will study Building Technology and will be issued a result by the Quantity Survey Department,” he added. In reaction, the Deputy Rector of the polytechnic Engr Ahmad Muhammad Gusau said the accusations were totally baseless. “They are leveling the allegations against the management because their financial demands have not been met due to serious shortage of funds. They have written petition against us to the Governing Council and the council is coming on Monday because we had intimated them already. On the issue of accreditation, they should understand that no course is permanently accredited. It is a continuous process. We have shortage of funds largely due to low internally generated revenue in the institution,” the deputy rector said.
