The atmosphere of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State was put on alert as there was a fire outbreak on Monday morning which destroyed a part of a Bank on the University's campus.
According to reports, the fire which destroyed some offices and a section of the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of the bank, started in the early hour of Monday.
The source explained that the inferno destroyed some money kept in the ATM machines while some documents were destroyed in the offices.
He said the cause of the fire was unknown but said it might not be unconnected with power surge saying that none of the bank’s workers had resumed when the fire started.
He said the whole building would have been razed down but for. The quick intervention of the men of the fire service unit within the University community who put off the fire.
He said: “The fire incident affected the four new ATMs that were just installed at the bank and also some offices were burnt down by the fire.
“It took the quick intervention of the men of the fire services department of the university before the situation could be brought under control. For some hours members of staff of the bank were unable to gain access to the bank as they were all outside discussing the incident.”
In his reaction, the Head of Media and Public Relations Unit of the institution, Mr Sola Imoru, who confirmed the incident said the fire did not extend to the school before it was out off.
Imoru said, “The fire happened in the morning at the bank area on the campus, when nobody was around but our staff and students are safe, it has no impact on the campus.”
