UNIUYO to increase intake of medical students, begs MDCN

The University of Uyo has called on the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to increase its quota for medical students.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Enefiok Essien said that the College of Health Sciences has complied with the requirement of MDCN in the area of training, manpower and infrastructure for the college.

Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Mrs Inyang Udofot during the 13th Physician’s Oath-Taking ceremony (Sponsio Academica) in Uyo, Essien said the university would continue to provide appropriate infrastructure for training of medical doctors to the best of its ability.

“The University has so far complied with requirement of the council in terms of infrastructures, equipment and manpower and we believe that with this in place, our request for increase in student quota will be granted,” he said.

He noted that the social media has been used to violate patient-doctor secrecy, and urged the doctors to be guided by the ethics of the profession in their medical practice.
