The
minister issued the appeal on Monday, November 13, at a special retreat
the presidency held for ministers on the challenges facing the education
sector.
Minister of Education urged President Muhammadu Buhari to pay more attention to the education sector as he has done to economy and security.
Talking
about the numerous challenges facing the sector, the minister,
therefore, asked The President to declare a state of emergency in the sector urging that this will help increase the financial and political resources required for
the country to address the challenges facing education.
“I
appeal to the federal government under the leadership of President
Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency in the Education sector
for the country to be able to change the fortunes of the system.
“The
strong political will needed to do all this is present in this
government. What this government must now do is to make funds
available,”
The Educational Sector of Nigeria has suffered a lot of crisis since the beginning of the Buhari's administration and Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) have already begun their strike on Monday, November 13, while University lecturers and College of Education lecturers are also threatening to on strike anytime soon.
