The Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Prof. Sadiq Abubakar in an interview told reporters about preparations to convert Ahmadu Bello University to a full post graduate institution.
He sited the population of JAMB candidates as one of the triggering factors stating that they aren’t enough access to candidates in getting admitted to tertiary institutions in order to become professionals.
He also claimed that his institution had very narrow space in training its student in having entrepreneur skills which would help in reducing unemployment and that the quality of undergraduates education in Nigeria is poor.
According to statistics, postgraduate programmes of ABU are the slowest in Nigeria as students sometimes spend six to ten years for M.Sc and PH.D but the Vice Chancellor claimed that they are some changes in place to avoid such problems in the future.
This move would stop ABU from offering conventional undergraduate programme to only postgraduate studies, research and development.
