All through last week (just 3 days or so), it was #PrayForNigeria trending and everyone jumped on it as if they are the holiest and most prayerful.
The nature which the 'prayer session' was conducted even by 'Celebrities' may have suggested immediate Security, infrastructural development and solutions to the economic woes of the Country. As if prayers make Countries great.
The story has changed in just 24 hours. Almost everyone has forgotten the explosions.
It is now #Japa- a trend of young people (male and female) exposing their exuberances and escapades. Don't worry the 'prayer warriors' of last week are still the people doing 'Japa'.
We forget our problems so easily. Our forgetfulness is the reason Politicians get away with their crimes and keep us impoverished.
It is also 'good news' and a trend that 322 million dollars (Abacha's loot) would be shared through Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) to ?85 million 'poorest Nigerians'. This is the statistics of people who live below $1 per day. The statistics was provided 2 weeks ago when Nigeria became the poverty capital of the World overthrowing India to come first.
But have we asked ourselves simple questions like -
Do the 'poorest Nigerians' have bank accounts?
Does that beggar at Idi-Oro look like someone who has an account with GTBank to you?
How then would he get it?
Or is he not part of the 'poorest Nigerians'
Warped logic!
We are very busy doing nothing. We do not have the character of asking questions. We do not care.
We only jump on an emotional soap-box when we get results of our being silent - results that are always unfortunate.
The next gas explosion or killing would happen and then we all go back to #PrayForNigeria. This is Nigeria. This is us.
